When will it really be summer again? For me, since the friendly messenger left an oversized package on my doorstep a few days ago. The sender was PhotonPro, a provider of photobiomodulation devices, among others. Is this something like red light, only bigger?
Like me, almost everyone still knows the small red light lamps that allow for targeted irradiation and that were often used in families when a cold was lingering. the larger model of the two infrared modules from PhotonPro with almost one meter height, 22 cm width and 180 LEDs, of which 90 are red light and 90 are near infrared (NIR) and a total wattage of 900, in another dimension.
The scope of delivery
The module is delivered with a Pulley system, ideal for hanging in the door frame or on a wall for large-area whole-body irradiation, a sufficiently long power cable and opaque blackout glasses.
Commissioning is uncomplicated, a socket is enough. The no-frills module in the white painted steel body looks quite suitable for living room.
Depending on the application, the lamp can optional vertically standing or hanging, as well as horizontal used. For simultaneous irradiation of both legs, horizontal use is recommended. For whole-body irradiation, treatment of the neck or upper back, vertical use is recommended.
A special feature is definitely the clearly labelled toggle switches on the back of the module, which allow the joint or separate control of the therapeutically effective wavelengths In contrast to classic red light, LED technology hardly generates any heat, which allows for much higher light intensities, without damaging the skin through heat and denaturing tissue proteinsPotentially harmful wavelengths are completely filtered out.
What is the difference to the red light lamp of my childhood?
Above all, the therapeutically effective wavelengths of the visible light red (660 nm) and the invisible near infrared (850 nm) Red light interacts with the body in a similar way to near-infrared light – it is believed, among other things, by increasing energy production (ATP) in our cells.
While the red wavelengths are absorbed in the first 2 to 2,5 mm of the skin tissue, Near-infrared light can penetrate much deeper into the bodyThe same mechanism is also responsible for many of the benefits of sunlight, which contains red wavelengths as part of its spectrum. However, sunlight also contains the harmful UV radiation responsible for sunburn, as well as blue light, which is important for the circadian rhythm.
My red light practical test
Plug and play, module in position, plug in the socket. Now just press the toggle switch on the back and you're ready to go. A little preparation can't hurt, though: There is no timer to set a predefined exposure time. And with opaque glasses on your nose or your eyes closed, it's difficult to see the clock. So, set the alarm on your cell phone and restart again.
Even through my closed eyelids, I can see how everything around me glows orange. It feels like I'm on vacation, as if the red sun was sinking into the sea in Capri. The glasses included are adjustable, but they're too big for my face.
Since the supplier excludes eye damage when used properly, I simply close my eyes. Also because positive studies on age-related macular degeneration are available.
The world looks different for a few minutes afterwards, namely inverted colors, so don't be alarmed. The effect seems to wear off after a few applications.
In the desired irradiation area I undress (as they used to say in the doctor's office). A slight heat radiation from the device is noticeable, no comparison to the heat of classic red light lamps. 900 watts of power require a Fans, a steady noise can be clearly heard – I don’t find it unpleasant.
And what about electro-radiation?
According to the manufacturer, potentially harmful electrical radiation can no longer be measured at a distance of 30 cm from the moduleThese are considered the minimum distance for near-infrared radiation anyway. For purely cosmetic applications (depending on the phase of life, acne or wrinkles) in the red light range, distances of 60cm and more are even recommended as sufficient.
After a few minutes, you will feel a warm feeling in your body that will continue even after you have finished using it. I use the panel for a maximum of 10 to 15 minutes in the morning. I have yet to use it in the evening.
The results
Apart from the pleasant feeling after use, none. But that would be asking too much after ten test sessions. Afterwards I feel (and hopefully my mitochondria and cells) fit and ready for the day. Before photos have been taken and a comparison will be made in six months. There were no muscular problems or other indications.
I'll stick with it!
